When I was a kid, the Dodgers and the Yankees played against each other in the World Series almost every year, including 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956. I always thought the Dodgers were a better team, but the Yankees won almost every year, with the exception of 1955. Casey Stengel’s secret weapon was the great Johnny Mize, who always seemed to be coming off the bench to beat the Dodgers with a late inning home run.
