1997 (1) Truxton, New York, Monument to John J. McGraw

Truxton is a small town in upstate New York, about 64 miles west of . Cooperstown. It was the birth place of John J. McGraw, the great former manager of the New York Giants and a member of the Hall of Fame.
The inscriptions on the monument read as follows:

“In memory of John J. McGraw born in Truxton April 7, 1873 died Feb. 25, 1934 a great American one of baseball’s immortals dynamic leader of the New York Giants for 30 years.”

“On August 8, 1938 the New York Giants played an exhibition game with the Truxton ball team in this village which made possible the erection of this memorial”
