1984 (3) SABR Recreation of the 1884 World Series Providence Grays New York Metropolitans, On the Field, Francie

We played our game in beautiful McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, the home of the Pawtucket Red Sox. We used the 1884 rules and customs, which did not include gloves and mitts for the fielders, including the catchers. Hillerich & Bradsby (Louisville Slugger) provided vintage bats. We did make one concession, which was to use a modern indoor baseball to protect our delicate fingers. My daughter, Francie, attended the game, but neglected to wear her 1884 clothing.
