1985 (1) Cooperstown
In 1985, Joe Pesce ran a batting range on Jericho Turnpike in Huntington. Joe is in the picture above, coaching third base. Joe had played baseball in Cooperstown previously, and he got the great idea of forming a team of local players to make a road trip to Cooperstown, which he did. The team included several of his customers at the batting range, as well as a couple of kids who worked there, and were also good players, including Gavin Mead and Joe’s son, John, and my son, Jim.Joe knew of some local teams in Cooperstown, and arranged for us to play several games against them in Doubleday Field. The results of these games have been lost to the dustbin of history, which is a shame, considering that the Hall of Fame is located just at the other end of Main Street, about two blocks away.
